Hawks Win Shootout by Momma Gouche

It took 11 rounds before Ben Smith clinched a 2-1 win for the Chicago Blackhawks over the Dallas Stars on Friday night. It was the 5th straight win for the Hawks, who remain on top of the standings with 42 points. There was a lot of action in the game, but obviously not a lot of scoring and the shootout added the drama. Until this point all our Canadian teams have 31 points or less while the Hawks sit on top with 44, so I at least have My Hawks as a solid contender for Stanley.

Leafs Try To Hold off The Sabres by Momma Gouche

The only thing the Toronto Maple Leafs got from holding the Buffalo Sabres was three trips to the penalty box. Toronto was leading 2-1 going into the third, but Luke Adam scored for the Sabres with 1:05 left in the second. There were no goals in the third and regulation ended 2-2. 38 seconds into OT Christian Ehrhoff settled the score at 3-2 for Buffalo. The win ended a 5 game losing streak for the Sabres.

Jets Lacked Luster by Momma Gouche

Jets Lacked Luster   by Momma Gouche     The only Jet that showed any desire to win the game against the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday night was Ondrej Pavelec. He played the best he could; while his mates gave him little backup. Scott Hartnell opened the scoring for the Flyers 48 seconds into the first period and Sean Couturier scored a shorthanded goal 5 minutes into the second. Michael Frolick put the Jets on board in the third, but that was just enough to rob Steve Mason of a shutout.

The Patricks Rule The 3rd by Momma Gouche

The Chicago Black Hawks had a slow start on Wednesday night, but @ 9;42 of the third the Patricks took over. Patrick Kane got 2 goals and Patrick sharp got another to lead the Hawks to a 3-2 win. Antti Raanta made 20 saves as his first start with Chicago. The Hawks take over 1st spot in the points standing. This could be a repeat performance for Chicago.

Jets Edge The Islanders by Momma Gouche

The Winnipeg Jets beat the New York Islanders 3-2 on Wednesday night. Mark Stuart, Andrew Ladd and Devin Setoguchi scored in the second before Andrew MacDonald put the Islanders on the score board. John Tavares got New York’s second goal in the third, but the Jets held off the slumping Islanders, for the win. The Islanders have lost four games in a row and have only 19 points. Winnipeg has 28 points and have 13 teams behind them. There is lots to go yet. Good luck Jets!

Leafs Blow Lead In 3rd by Momma Gouche

The Toronto Maple Leafs were up 5-3 going into the third on Wednesday night in their game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The had played well and Jonathan Bernier had faced over 40 shots; while Marc Andre Fleury and Justin Zatkoff faced a combined 24. James Van Riemsdyk had done his part in picking up a goal and two assists. The Leafs fell apart in the third and the Penguins scored two goals to tie the game. There were no goals in overtime and Pittsburgh won the shootout. A game that Toronto should not of lost. They are beginning to slip in the point total.

Hawks Take Over Again by Momma Gouche

The Chicago Blackhawks are once again tops in points with 39 and Patrick Kane scores in 11 straight games. The Chicago Blackhawks ended the Edmonton Oilers 3 game win streak on Monday night by besting them 5-1. All four lines played well. Andrew Shaw got 2 goals and an assist. Jonathan Toews, Johnny Oduya and Patrick Kane got the other three goals. Brandon Saad and Duncan Keith had 2 assists. The Hawks played an organized game and focused on their plays. In the end this team will be a tough team to beat. They recover from defeat very quickly and seldom make the same mistakes. Good Luck Hawks!

Leafs Blown Away by Momma Gouche

Ryan Johansen lead the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 6-0 roust of the Toronto Maple Leafs with 2 goals and an assist on Monday night. The Leafs just couldn’t put anything together. They fumbled the puck, they gave it a way, or the puck skipped over their sticks. James Reimer said that as hard as he tried, the puck kept eluding him. He let in 6 of 21 shots. Hopefully this was “just one of those nights” and the Leafs will get back to a more solid play and able to handle the puck better. They have been playing pretty well and are holding up in the standings.

Jets Recover From Shootout Loss by Momma Gouche

After giving up the tying short handed goal to the Minnesota Wild @ 15:05 of the third period Saturday night, the Winnipeg Jets were not able to score in overtime or win the shootout. Zach Parise out- maneuvered Brian Little for the tying goal and the Jets lost 3-2. However the Jets somewhat redeemed themselves on Monday night with their 3-1 win over the New Jersey Devils. They played a much better offensive game and got long awaited goals from Mark Scheifele, Evander Kane and Devin Setoguchi. These three had not scored in seven to twenty five games. Ondrej Pavelec had a stellar game, winning his first game in 4 starts. The Jets are on a 6 game road trip and will have to keep up the good offensive plays they displayed on Monday.
