Leafs Snuff Out The Flames by Momma Gouche

Although Jonathan Bernier was faced with 43 shots, compared to Calgary’s goalie Karri Ramo’s 21, on Wednesday night he stood his ground stalwartly and Toronto came out with a 4-2 victory. It was a rough game with 8 of 13 penalties going to the Leafs. It was a nail biter to the end, as Toronto was only up 1 at 18:38 of the third, when Paul Ranger, with an unassisted wrist shot., put one into an empty net . The Leafs were short handed at the time. The Toronto Maple Leafs have surpassed themselves this season and are up with the leaders, with 20 points. Keep it up Leafs!

Leafs Blank The Oilers by Momma Gouche

Phil Kessel took over the ice on Monday night and lead the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 4-0 win over the Edmonton Oilers. Kessel contributed on every goal and never stop coming. An outstanding effort by Phil. Edmonton outshot Toronto 43-26, but couldn’t hit the mark. But … of course … James Reimer had a great  night in goal. Toronto continues to stay right up there in points and has no doubt amazed all the fans … the Gouches included.

Hawks Run Wild by Momma Gouche

Patrick Sharp opened the scoring for the Chicago Blackhawks in the first period of their game against the Minnesota Wild on Monday night and the Hawks only allowed a single goal for the Wild in the second. My Hawks took over from there and added 4 more goals, to end with a 5-1 win. The Hawks left no doubt as to who was in control. Chicago scored 2 goals in the second and added 2 more in the third .It was a team effort and even the defense put in their 2 cents , with goals from Sheldon Brookbank and Nick Leddy. Parick Kane played his usual strong game and pick up 2 more points. This game looked like what I expect from the Hawks and puts them 4 points out of the lead. They looked like the team of old. Well done Hawks!

Jets Grounded By Avalanche……by Momma Gouche

Many people thought that the Winnipeg Jets could not stand up to the Colorado Avalanche, but my thoughts are they should have won Sunday night’s game. Brian Little tied the score at 1-1 in the first and Blake Wheeler’s slapshot (on a 4 on 4) from a short backhand shot from Little, in the middle of the second, was a perfect combination. The Jets were playing strong the beginning of the third and clearing their end well. Al Montoya was steady in net. Now for the down side of this story! ” power plays … power plays” The Jets had 6 power play opportunities and came out with zilch. For the records the Jets are now 0-22 in this venue. Time the placid coach got the message that he doesn’t have the right combination or system in place. Maybe time we had a look at a coaching position…..my Jets need to make the playoffs this year and this road trip has many important points to win.

The Sharks Are Attacking by Momma Gouche

The San Jose Sharks are smooth sailing through the league.  They kept the Montreal Canadiens off the board with a 2-0 win on Saturday night. Logan Couture got both of the goals. I can’t remember where they stood in last years season, but they are certainly sweeping the waters this year. They hold a 19 point lead.

The Hawks And Momma Gouche by Momma Gouche

The Chicago Blackhawks had most of the advantages on Saturday night, but couldn’t put enough past, the less than healthy, Niklas Backstrom,  The Minnesota Wild had five injured players out of the game, but managed to best the” Mighty Hawks” 5-2. Although Chicago has 15 points I think it is time the put out a better effort.

Leafs Fly Over The Penguins By Momma Gouche

Dave Boland and James Reimer, with their outstanding play, lead the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 4-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday night. The win also puts the Leafs 2 points ahead of the Penguins in the standings. Who would have believed that Toronto would be in the top four at this point? The fans now have a team to cheer about and hopefully the Leafs can continue to do themselves proud. Well done team Toronto.
