Jets Out Of Playoffs by Momma Gouche

Even if the Winnipeg Jets had won their game against the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night they still would not have made it to the Playoffs. The New York Rangers clinched  8th spot in the Eastern Conference by defeating the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3. The Winnipeg Jets looked very promising until they lost back to back games…at home… against the Washington Capitals. The Jets have lots of talented players, including  goalie, Andrej Pavelec. Pavlec’s speedy moves saved several games for them. Next year Winnipeg will be playing in the Western Conference, which is touted to be a tougher league.

The Caps Capitalize by Momma Gouche

The Washington  Capitals were all over the Winnipeg Jets in the 1st period on the 23rd and the Jets were not able to keep the puck out of their end. Winnipeg had 4 power play chances, on which Andrew Kane was able to score on one. Kane was not able to get past Braden Holby on a penalty shot. Perhaps the Jets were not in good shape, having played an away game against the Buffalo Sabres the night before; which they squeaked by 2-1. Alex Ovechkin was ever present, getting a goal and an assist. The win by the Washington Capitals clinches their lead in The Southeast Division and gives them a playoff spot. The Jets have only one more door open for them to make the playoffs, and it is all iffy. They must beat the Montreal Canadiens on the 25th, but the Ottawa Senators or the New york Rangers have to lose some games. The Senators play the Capitals, away, on the 25th and the Bruins, away, on the 28th. The Ranger play the Hurricanes, away, on the 25 , and the  Devils, home, on the 27th. A slight chance the Jets will get to the playoffs, but if I stick to my  game plan …. we just might make it. However, as my Scottish father would say …” The best laid schemes of mice and men go aft agley!

Toronto Makes The Playoffs by Momma Gouche

The good news is that the Leafs have finally made the playoffs. The bad news is that  the Jets have to win all three of their game left (2 of them away) The Rangers beat the Devils on Sunday night; which puts them 3 points up on the Jets. The Jets play the Capitals on the 23rd and that could be the clincher. However Winnipeg would not likely come anywhere near taking the Cup; as I already have already slated the Hawks for that trophy, but it would be nice for the Jets to make the playoffs. The odds are pretty well stacked against them, as the Rangers and Capitls have been playing some pretty solid hockey. Maybe the Jets fate will be determined on Tuesday night, when the Jets meet the Capitals … away.

The Hockey Playoffs Scenario by Momma Gouche

Two defencemen for  Winnipeg  saved the day for the Jets, and kept their playoff hopes alive Thursday night  Zach Bogosian got the first goal and Dustin Byfuglien won the game in overtime, Not one of their better games, as the Carolina Hurricanes didn’t give them much room. Luckily the Ottawa Senators defeated the Washington Capitals, but the New York Rangers were suppose to lose to the Florida Panthers, but the Caps road all over them  6-1. In order for the Jets to survive, the Capitals or Rangers have to lose a few and the jets have to keep on winning. The Toronto Maple Leafs are on tender ice after a 5-3 loss to the New Islanders. Winnipeg has two home games left and a crucial away game against Washington.

Jets Recover Shootout by Momma Gouche

Andrew Ladd scored 1:23 into the first period Tuesday night to give the Winnipeg Jets a 1-0 lead over the Tampa Bay Lightning. The jets were everywhere and challenged the net relentlessly the first half of the period. It looked like th jets were going to run away with the game. Suddenly the Lightning came alive and Martin St Louis tied the score at 10:27. Winnipeg tallied twice in the second period, but Tampa Bay came back with 2 in the third. Unbelievably … to me … the game went into overtime … and then into shootout. Mike Satorelli and Andrew Ladd scored, to win the game. It was a scary 15-20 minutes for the Winnipeg fans, as this game was criitcal to stay in the running for the playoffs. The Washington Capitals continue to win, but the Toronto Maple Leafs loss to them still leaves them in 5th spot. Fortunately the New York Rangers lost to the Philadelphia Flyers and leaves the Jets tied in points with them, but the Flyers have one game in hand. What a strain it has become on me, trying to get the Jets in one door or the other.

Leafs Blow Away The Canadiens by Momma Gouche

The Toronto Maple Leafs played a very solid game in defeating the Montreal Canadiens 5-1 on Saturday night. The Leafs scored 4 in the first period … on 5 shots.Toronto’s goals were  answered by only 1 for the Canadiens. Toronto got 1 more in the second and there was no scoring in the third. There were 13 penalties in the game and the Leafs had only 5 of them. There was only 1 power play goal by the Leafs. Toronto played a very good, but cautious game, in protecting their lead. Their sights will be on the playoffs; which looks like they now have a solid chance of being there.

The Caps Took Off By Momma Gouche

The Washington Capitals took over the first period Saturday night by scoring 3 goals; but the Tampa Bay Lighting took over the penalties with 5. Alex Ovechkin was again a key player with a goal and an assist. The Lightning struck early in the second, but the Capitals soon retaliated with 2 more. Martin St Louis gave Tampa Bay a second goal a 18:45. Then Richard Panik and Martin St Louis got their second goals of the night. Teddy Purcell tied the game at 17:45 and it was an entirely new ball game. Unfortunately the Lightning took a penalty in overtime and Mike Green scored for Washington. Tampa Bay did a tremendous job in coming back to tie the game and it was tough to see them lose in overtime after such a great effort.
