Jets Need Fuel……by Momma Gouche

The Winnipeg Jets played another lackluster offensive game on Saturday afternoon: while the Carolina Hurricanes were determined to take back first place in the Southeast Division. The Jets did manage to hold back the Hurricanes on two  5 on 3 in  second period, but a goal by Jussi Jokinen was the only one given up by goalie, Justin Peters. It looks as though both teams will only get into the playoffs through winning the division; as the teams around 7th and 8th slots in the Conference are getting rather crowded. Meanwhile … the Toronto Maple Leafs are lookiing like they are comfortable in 6th place in the conference. 3 goals by Nazem Kadri and 3 assists by Joffrey Lupul led them to a 4-0 win over the Ottawa Senators. If the leafs continue along their current path they will finally break the 8 year drought. Good Luck Jets and Leafs.

The Hawks Were Flying by Momma Gouche

The Chicago Blackhawks let it be known from the get-go who was going to dominate in their game against the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday afternoon. Jeromy Morin got the first goal for the Chicago at 2:23 of the first period and the Hawks just kept on coming. Detroit’s Cory Emerton gave the Red wings their only goal at 19:27 of third. Brandon Saad and Dave Bolland had 2 each. There were only 2 penalties, both given to the Hawks. Detroit had 34 shots on goal and Chicago had 26. (seven of which went in) There were no power play goals. A very exciting game for the Hawks’ and a real roust for the Red Wings.

In Aid Of The Jets by Momma Gouche

The Toronto Maple Leafs, not only strengthened their own cause on Thursday night by besting the Carolina Hurricanes 6-3, they kept the Hurricanes off the back of the Winnipeg Jets in the Southeast Division. The Jets lost 4-0 to the powerful Pittsburgh Penguins squad . Goalie, Al Montoya cannot be faulted too much, as he thwarted off 39 of 43 shots. The Jets had a very weak offensive play. Ondrej Pavelec was given a rest so he can be ready to take on the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. The Gouche is picking the Penguins for the Cup, but Momma Gouche still has her sights on the Hawks. The Philadelphia Flyers could have helped the Jets if they had beaten the New York Islanders, but they lost in a shootout. Al — in — all, the Jets are still in a very good position.

Dustin Byfuglien by Momma Gouche

When I first espied Dustin he was playing for my (almost lifetime favorites) the Chicago Blackhawks.  How upset I was when he was traded to the Atlanta Thrashers. Little did I know, at that time, that the Thrashers would wind up in Winnipeg (my hometown). It was expected that it would be the Phoenix Coyotes that would return, once again, to become the Winnipeg Jets. It couldn’t be a better combination for me. The Gouche took me to a signing — something that I seldom do. I received a Chicago puck signed by Dustin Byfuglien. I could by this time have hundreds of autographed memorabilia, but I have given them all away. Now I own two pucks. One signed by Buffy and another signed by The Gouche …. when he got his 2000th point in his German hockey career. Now I hear that the Boston Bruins are hot after Dustin. It will not be a money exchange  … but bodies. Hopefully the Jets will decide that he is too valuable to them and … turn down any offer!

Lupul Leads The Way by Momma Gouche

It has been a traumatic season for Joffrey Lupul, but somehow he has managed to get those special goals when they are crucial. He has missed 25 games with a broken arm and has had a two game suspension for an illegal hit. With 2 goals in the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 3-2 win over the Florida Panthers, Wednesday night, he has certainly proven his worth. The Leafs have hovered around 6th place in the conference — so –if they maintain the status quo, they should make the playoffs after a 8 year drought.

Andrew Kane Leads The Jets by Momma Gouche

On Tuesday night the Carolina Hurricanes came out strong, but the Winnipeg Jets held them off (even through a power play). Then, a second after the penalty expired, Jiri Tlusty scored for the Hurricanes. The Jets got on stream and Olli Jokinen tied the game at 13:44. Tobias Ensrom scored 4 minutes into the second and the Jets go ahead 2-1. Nik Antropov gets a disputed goal at 16.39, which  proves to be legitimate, and Winnipeg has a 3-1 lead. Evander Kane has assisted on all three goals  Kane adds to his points at 12.37 with a goal, and the Jets win a very important game 3-1. The Carolina Hurricanes have lost 5 of their last 6 games.

Hockey Night In Canada by Momma Gouche

It appears as though five of our Canadian teams are headed for a playoff spot, Calgary and Edmonton look like their chances are slipping away. The Toronto Maple Leafs loss to the Boston Bruins Monday night, in shootout, at least gave them a point and keeps them up in the conference standings as the vie for their first playoff appearance in eight years! The Ottawa Senators win over the New Jersey Devils not only strengthened their own cause, but helps to keep the Devils off the Winnipeg Jets back. The Jets, who have played three more game than the Carolina Hurricanes, are slated to meet them on the 26th in Carolina and then on the 30th in Winnipeg. These games are musts, if Winnipeg hopes to maintain their lead in the Southeast Division.
