Hawks In Six Starring Momma Gouche

While the, self appointed, aficionados of the Hockey world were touting their knowledge and proclaiming   … Boston in seven  … this life time fan of the Chicago Black Hawks, Momma Gouche, stuck to her guns … Hawks in 6  … and won. I would like to know how many other fans shared my faith. The pompous  a__, Don Cherry, strutted as he gave the world his assurance that he had the winner. I doubt if he will eat crow. He’ll find another tidbit to blame it on. Meanwhile, on to the game. Both the Boston Bruins and the Chicago Blackhawks had their periods of dominance The Bruins lead the scoring 2-1 in the third; until Bryan Bolland tied the score at !8:45. Shades of a third overtime in the series!  However, with 59 seconds left in regulation, Dave Bolland, with the help of Michael Frolik and Johnny Oduya, captured the Cup by putting a wrist shot past Tuukka Rask The Boston Bruins fans were stunned; while Chicago Blackhwaks’ fans in attendance were overwhelmed. The injured Jonathon Toews played a great game and had a goal and an assist. The NHL scoreboiard on my computer had the wrong three stars of the game, but I’m sure they will catch up to the facts. I know that Dave Bolland got the first star  …as he deseved. Way To Go Blackhawks!

A “Pat” For Kane by Momma Gouche

Goals by Patrick Kane in the first and second .. backed by Jonathon Toews … proved to be enough for the Chicago Blackhawks to take a 3-2 lead in the Stanley Cup playoffs Saturday night. The concern about Corey Crawford’s glove hand didn’t come into play, as Corey aptly swept aside 24 of the 25 shots aimed at him. Injured Jonathon Toews sat on the bench in the third, begging coach, Joel Quenneville, to give him a shift. Quenneville ignored him. Patrice Bergeron was taken to hospital by ambulance, with an unannounced injury. The game was rough. Not ever having been a fan of the Boston Bruins (the Bad Boys from Boston), I naturally blame it all on the Bruins. However, the Hawks got in a few licks. Patrick Kane, Corey Crawford and Bryan Bickell took all three stars. I’m hoping for a game of skill on Monday night, with my prediction of  the Chicago Black Hawks in 6, coming to fruition. Go Hawks …Go!

That Ugly Word = Overtime By Momma Gouche

After the Marathon 5 hour game it took for the Chicago Blackhawks to win the opener in the Stanley Cup finals I dread the very thought of the word. But here we go again in game four!  Going into the game the Hawks were down 2-1 games against the Boston Bruins. When the Hawks got a short handed goal by Michael Handzus in the first, and Jonathon Toews and Patrick Kane scored in the second, we had a 2 goal comfort zone. But the Bruins came on strong the end of the second and into the third. Two goals by Patrick Bergeron tied the score 8 minutes into the period and things were not looking good for the Hawks .Patrick Sharp put Chicago ahead again on a power play, but a minute later Johnny Boychuk tied the score again The game ended 5-5. Overtime …. and the Hawks must win or go down 3 games to 1. Brent Seabrook saved the day by scoring @ 9;51, and we’re going back to Chicago for two. If all goes well, and we can beat Tuukka Rask twice, I may just win my prediction … in 6. Remember the Blackhawks dressing room sign says ” Whatever position we’re in … we can come back.” Good Luck Hawks!

On The Wings Of A Prayer by Momma Gouche

The Chicago Blackhawks pulled it off once with a 3-1 deficit., but now they are in a real crunch, with the Cup on the line. Not only did they lose 71 percent of the faceoffs, but their power play efforts were non existent..The lack of Marion Hossa on the roster was certainly missed, but only the Great Gretzky was a “one man team”. The game Monday night was all the Boston Bruins and the Bruins made the Hawks look like play ground hopefuls. As a prayer is not likely to help their cause;. the wingers are going to have to take up the cross and play the game we are used to seeing. A loss Wednesday night will likely portent the end of the road for Chicago. My six gsme win for the Hawks looks virtually … Out Of The Question … unless my Hawks can perform another miracle.

It Tuukk A Rask To Win by Momma Gouche

If not for the brilliant play of Tuukka Rask, on Saturday night, the Chicago Blackhawks would have been up a least 3 goals on the Boston Bruins by the end of the 1st period. This was the best I have seen him play all season. Patrick Sharp got by him in the 1st, but Rask shut the Hawks down for the rest of the game. The Bruins only had 3 shots in the first, but Chris Kelly got his first goal of the playoffs in the second. There was no scoring in the third and it only took one period of overtime for Daniel Paille to even the series at 1-1. Monday night’s game is in Boston, and unless Rask comes up with another thriller, I hoping for the Hawks to tie the series. It looks like there isn’t much to choose between the two teams. Although most fans and the media are calling it a 7 game final, i’m ready to predict a six game win for the Hawks.I don’t like crow for a midnight snack.

Deflection Ends Marathon Game In Triple OT by Momma Gouche

It took 115 minutes :08 seconds (almost five hours) of exhausting hockey for a 4-3 win to be garnered by the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday night. The opening game of the Stanley Cup finals between the Boston Bruins and the Hawks had lots of twists and turns. In the opening period Chicago played like it was just another practice; until Milan Lucic scored 2 and the Hawks were down 2-0,  Brandon Saad got his first goal of the playoffs to cut the lead to 1 by the end of the second. The Hawks played well in the second, but Patrice Bergeron scored on a power play and the hawks were again down 2. My hopes for my Hawks were dwindling until David Bolland and Johnny Oduya tied the score at 3-3. Now the fear of overtime! The Hawks took penalties for too many men on the ice in both OT periods and it looked like they were disorganized … and disaster was at hand. Through 2 periods of overtime the teams were fairly well match, but fatigue was taking it’s toll. It was either teams victory …  until Andrew Shaw caught a deflection off of Dave Bolland and slipped it in the net.The after midnight show was over …  my Blackhawks are ahead by 1

Blackhawks In Seven by Momma Gouche

Even though Damien Cox, of the Star, says that the Boston Bruins are the most physical team the Chicago Blackhawks have met this season, he is going with his heart … and the Hawks … in 7. His heart and mine are in sinque about the win, but my aging heart will have trouble lasting through a single game decision. This will be the first time since 1979 that two of the original six will meet in the final. The Montreal Canadiens beat the New York Rangers. The Blackhawks and Bruins have never met in a final before. There seems to be a lot of firsts and this is the first time since the Blackhawks won in 2010 that I have been so fired up about a Stanley Cup playoff. Wednesday night begins it all … in Chicago. Go … Hawks … Go!

A First In History By Momma Gouche

While the eyes and ears of hockey fans were focused ,south of the border, on the run for the Stanley Cup, history was made, north of the border, in Toronto.  It took 18 innings and five hours and 28 minutes for the Toronto Blue Jays to best the New York Yankees. This will go down as the longest game in the Jays’ history. How fitting to occur on the 51st birthday of manager, John Gibson. And what a thrill for Rajai Davis, who came into the game as a replacement in the eighth inning, to hit home Emilio Bonafacio for the 4-3  win.

Kane Does The Trick by Momma Gouche

The Chicago Blackhawks did not look impressive the first 3 minutes into Saturday night’s game against the Los Angeles Kings. Then a long slap shot from Duncan Keith went between the legs of goalie, Jonathan Quick. Two minutes later Patrick Kane recorded the first of his 3 goals; which finally gave the Hawks a 4-3 win, and a trip to the Stanley Cup against the Boston Bruins. The first period ended 2-0 for the Hawks and it looked like Chicago had full control of the game. That was before Dwight King got a short handed goal midway through the second. Anzi Kopitar got a power play goal in the third, and the score was tied 2-2.   The Kings were not ready to be dethroned too readily. But Patrick Kane, who was playing some tremendous hockey, put the Hawks in front again at 16:08 of the third. With 19 seconds left the Blackhawk fans were cheering their victory. But…with 9.4seconds left … Mike Richards scored off the face-off having the puck deflect of his thigh….3-3. After approximately 30 minutes of overtime Patrick Kane came to the fore once again. The Chicago Blackhawks will meet the Boston Bruins Wednesday, at home, for the first game of the Stanley Cup playoff. A special thanks to Patrick Kane from Momma Gouche.    Good Luck Blackhawks!

The Pens Played Well And Lost by Momma Gouche

The Pittsburgh Penguins fought right to the end and were all over the Boston Bruins’ net in the dying seconds of Friday night’s game. Both teams played extremely good games and it was a matter of who got by which goalie. One of the better games I have seen this playoff series. It was either teams game until  Adam Mcquaid slapped one by Tomas Vokoun @ 5:01 of the third: and that goal held to be the winner … 1-0. The Boston Bruins took round three 4-0 and go on to meet either the Chicago Blackhawks or the Los Angles Kings in the Stanley Cup final. With the Hawks leading 3 games to 1, Saturday night could be the end of the season for the Kings.
