Predators Win Three In A Row by Momma Gouche

Craig Smith and Matt Cullen lead the way to the Nashville Predators’ 4-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday night. Smith had 2 goals and an assist and Matt Cullen had 1 goal and 3 assist. The only highlight of the Leafs game was that Pete Holland got the first goal of the game and his first as a Toronto Maple Leaf. The Leafs did not play well … missing  the little things and that does not go well against the diciplined Predators.

Momma Gouche Lectured The Chicago Black Hawks

Apparently I got threw to the Hawks, but at the expense of my Winnipeg Jets. They were back on stride again on Thursday night with a 6-3 win. Jonathon Toews picked up 4 points,Patrick Kane,Dustin Byfuglien, Andrew Ladd and Brent Seabrook each got 2.The score was tied 3-3 at the end of the second period, but the Hawks took over the third. Chicago is on top of the standings with 34, but sadly Winnipeg is slipping.

Hawks Playing Hot And Very Cold by Momma Gouche

The Colorado Avalanche got 5 straight goals on the Chicago Black Hawks before Brandon Saad saved a shutout @ 12:10 of the third period. There has got to be a reason for the Hawks inconsistency. One hates to always blame the coach, but obviously the combination of players just isn’t always working. Chicago has got to solve this problem soon, before their point lead starts to crumble.

Leafs’ New Kid On The Block by Momma Gouche

Twelve games ago Trevor Smith appeared out of nowhere and after a goal and two assists on Tuesday night, in the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 5-2 win over the New York Islanders, he has 3 goals and 3 assists since being added to the big club roster. He was given more ice time than any other forward against the Islanders and it sure paid dividends. Phil Kessel also added 2 goals even while suffering flu the past day and Joffrey Lupul had 2 assists. The team played well together, but the Leafs took two of the four major penalties handed out for fighting.

Jets Lack Power by Momma Gouche

The Winnipeg Jets had only 2 shots on goal in the first period in their game against the Minnesota Wild on Sunday night. Mikko Koivu got the lone goal in the first period and there was no scoring in the second. Dustin Byfuglien, who has been playing well of late, tied the game early in the third. Koivu got his second goal of the game at 16:48, which gave the Wild a 2-1 win. Coach Claude Noel didn’t think  the Jets played that badly. Perhaps they didn’t … but they didn’t win. I found it to be a very boring game.

Hawks Catch The Sharks by Momma Gouche

After a devastating loss to the Nashville Predators on Saturday night the Chicago Blackhawks came back and took over the lead in points from the San Jose Sharks, with a 5-1 win. Patrick Sharp lead the way with 2 goals and an assist in a game that only saw 2 penalties. To quote the Sharks … “What ever position we are in, we can come back”. Lets just say … “they took a night off”. Me thinks my team could live up to their motto … and quite possibly go all the way again this season. True, there are a lot of games yet to be won, but this group of hockey players have the Motsy to do so. Fly Hawks …Fly!

Toronto Keeps Buffalo In The Cellar by Momma Gouche

In a game fraught with 18 penalties the Toronto Maple Leafs came out with a 4-2 win over  the lowly Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night. Not the type of game I like to watch, but the Leafs remain near the top with 28 points. Only 3 power play goals were scored amidst this milieu. James van Riemsdyk had 2 goals for the Leafs. The Sabres outshot the Leafs 35-22. There are still a lot of games left, but the Sabres are going to have to start winning a few more if they hope to climb out of the “also ran”
