The Other Games….by Momma Gouche

Washington Sneaks Threw In OT

With 60 shots imposed on the 2 goalies only 3 of them went in when The Washington Capitals met the New York Rangers on Friday night. That says a lot for goalies Henrik Lundqvist and Braden Holtby. They both stood their ground and there was only one powerplay goal for the Caps. New York scored the first goal in the first period and Washington replied on a powerplay, in the second. Lots of action by all the stars but the goalies were outstanding, they were the game. It took overtime for Mike Ribeiro to beat Lundqvist and give the Capitals a 3-2 lead in the seriesI  it will take game six to see if the round continues or whether Washington moves on to the second round.

Detroit Gets Another Kick At The Ducks

Detroit was not ready to “roll over like a duck” and let Anaheim  eliminate them from the 1st round. The Detroit Red Wings won a big one against the Anaheim Ducks 4-3 Friday night to keep in the round with a 4-3 victory. The Ducks took all 3 of the penalties called in the game, on which the Wings got a powerplay goal from Henrik Zetterberg (his first of the series). With the series tied 3-3 an advance to the 2nd round is still up for grabs. The Gouche is hoping for the Ducks move on.

St. Louis Gets The Blues form the Kings

The Los Angeles Kings ousted the St. Louis Blues from a run at the Cup by besting the them 2-1 in Friday nights game. This hard fought battle gave the Kings a 4-2 win in games in the 1st round and a chance to defend their title from last season. The series started off in the Blues’ favor going up two games to none but the Kings wore the Blues down and eventually were just too much for Ken Hitchcock’s team from St. Louis.
