A Losing Night…by Momma Gouche

Thursday night the Toronto Maple Leafs were awesome in killing off a double minor 2 minutes into the first period of their game against the Buffalo Sabres. Tyler Bozak and Nazem Kadri tallied for Toronto and the Leafs were ahead 2-0 halfway through the period. Toronto was not able to hold off the Sabres on their 3rd penalty and Buffalo shortened the lead to one on a goal by Tyler Ennis at 18:54. Toronto went ahead 3-1 at 8:52 of the second, on a goal by Mikhail Grabovski, but goals by Marcus Foligno and Jason Pominville, in less than a minute, tied the game. The Sabres took the lead, on a power play goal 22 seconds into the third, but the Leafs tied the game again at 6:33 on a power play goal by Nazem Kadri (his second) at 6:33. Toronto’s goalie, James Reimer, saved their skin a couple of times late in the period. The Leafs took a high sticking penalty with a minute left and the game went into overtime, with the Toronto still in the box. Overtime was fast and furious, but the game went into shootout. The third shootout for Toronto in the last couple of weeks. The Sabres won the shootout and the Leafs had blown a 3-1 lead. Nazem Kadri and Christian Ehrhoff had a 3 point game. Toronto gets a point, but Randy Carlyle said he is not happy with his team scoring 4 goals —- and losing. The Winnipeg Jets were blown away by the Washington Capitals 4-0, but the New Jersey Devils saved their first spot in the Southeast Division by besting the Carolina Hurricanes  4-1.
