Ovie Can’t Go Home! by Momma Gouche

Alex Ovechkin told reporters “We just can’t go home right now”. At 1:28 he backed those words up when he powered a slapshot … from 30 feet … passed goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. Ovie was determined and hit the goalpost later in the period. He motivated the team throughout the game. Later yet he blocked a shot that was heading straight for Braden Holtby. At 10:59 of the second period Jason Chimera gave the Washington Capitals a 2 goal edge on the New York Rangers. Then … “shades of yesteryear” … reared its ugly head and Jeff Halpern took a 2&2 hi-sticking penalty. But the Capitals were not about to let the scenario of game 5 repeat itself. They played like there was no tommorow … and there wasn’t if they lost! In fact … Mike Green just missed getting a short-handed goal. Marion Gaborik scored for the Rangers with 51 seconds left in the game, but the night was all the determination of the Capitals. Dale Hunter, coach of the Washington Capitals, elevated a despondent Joel Ward to the third line, to show he still had confidence in him. Joel had a good game Wednesday night and had more than his usual shifts. Now … on to the final Saturdat night. If Ovechkin and his teammates play with the same fervor, they should come out as winners.
