Although the Winnipeg Jets lost 3-0 to the New York Ranger on Sunday night there are some good things to say about their defense. Admitably the offense didn’t do anything (even with 4 power plays), but the defense was stalwart. Ondrej Pavelec let one in by Derek Stepan while Andrew Ladd was serving, pretty near back to back, penalties at 6:54 and 9:36 of the second period. The Jets got penalties at 1:14 .. 2:12 .. and 2:43 of the third and the defense and Ondrej Pavelec did a stupendous job of killing off 2 5 on 3s. Dustin Byfuglien pinched in the third period allowing a 2 on 1 and Marion Gaborik scored at 8:31. Byfuglien had missed Fridays game and is facing criminal charges in a boating incident; which probably is putting him out of focus. Gaborik scored again at 19:58 in an open net; which gave him 2 goals and an assist for the game. The Rangers have won four straight and Marin Biron got his first shutout of the season. The Jets played hard to the end and although they have a lowly 12 points, I am confident they will improve their stats for play-off time.
