Capitals Flying High…by Momma Gouche

Washington showed the NHL that they are in a class of their own with a 7-1 drubbing of the Detroit Red Wings. At a one minute interval the Washington Capitals took a two goal lead in Saturdays game with the Detroit Red Wings when Mike Green scored at 14:00 and Marcus Johansson scored at 15:01. Green scored his second (on a power play) at 4:57 of the second. Niklas Kronwall scored Detroit’s only goal at 11:05. Washington took over from there with goals from Mathieu Perrault at 19:52, one from Joel Ward at 8:17 of the third, Perrault’s second goal at 11:15 and Niklas Backstrom at 17.21. There was lots of action in the game, but not much for the Detroit Red Wings’ supporters to cheer about. The Capitals skated away with the deserved 7-1 victory. Washington now is tied with Pittsburgh with 14 points. The Pittsburgh Penguins, who are playing without their superstar Sidney Crosby, play again Monday night, while Washington sits idle. No one expected the Capitals to dominate the Wings quite this bad, but it shows that the Caps maybe ready to take the next step.
