Yanks Jeter put on DL

New York Yankee fans will have to wait a little bit longer before they see their beloved captain, Derek Jeter, officially become the first ever Yankee player to obtain 3,000 career hits. Perhaps due to age catching up to him the 37 year-old Jeter, who is only six hits shy of the milestone, was injured on Monday, when during a 1-0 loss to the Cleveland Indians, he strained his right calf after flying out in the fifth inning. “I’m worried about him,” manager Joe Girardi said. “Just keep our fingers crossed and hopefully it’s not too serious.” Jeter, who was disagnosed with a Grade 1 strain, will have to wait until Tuesday before finding out if he needs to go on the disabled list. “He just walked off the field and you could tell he was done,” Girardi said about Jeter, who in his career has never been on the disabled list.  “You don’t see him come out of games. This comes as a big blow to fans, teammates and Jeter himself , who desperately wanted to get that milestone hit during the upcoming three game homestand against the Texas Rangers. Replacing Jeter after the fifth inning was shortstop, Eduardo Nunez. Following this homestand the Yankees are on the road for three at Wrigley Field, where they take on the Chicago Cubs, and another three in Cincinnati against the Reds.
