Thomas leads Bruins to Game 3 playoff victory against Tampa Bay

Boston Bruins’ veteran goalie, Tim Thomas, showed on Thursday why he is considered a hands down favourite to win the Vezina Trophy this year. Without question, Thomas played his best game this spring by stopping 31 shots, to lead the Bruins to a Game 3, Eastern Conference Finals, victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Boston, who are now only two wins shy of going to the Stanley Cup Finals, got goals from defenceman Andrew Ference and forward David Krejci. Still the biggest news for the Bruins’ had to be the sudden turnaround from Thomas, who in the first two games of this series surrendered an uncharacteristic nine goals. Another reason for Bruins’ fans to be optimistic is that their best two way forward,,Patrice Bergeron, is once again back in the lineup. Bergeron, who this spring has scored two goals and 12 points, has missed the first two games of the Eastern Conference Finals due to a concussion suffered against the Philadelphia Flyers. Heading into Thursday’s game both teams’ were looking to avoid the run and gun type of hockey, which was played in Game 2 when Boston won 6-5. Thomas, who gained his second career playoff shutout, made his best save in the first off a hard shot from Martin St. Louis. Game four will once again be played in Tampa Bay on Saturday.
