Yanks’ Jeter stands behind Posada

New York Yankees co-chairman, Hank Steinbrenner, isn’t a happy camper these days and it has nothing to do with team captain, Derek Jeter, supporting long time teammate, Jorge Posada, who last weekend took himself out of the lineup. Steinbrenner went public on Monday in saying that even though it is still early he is bothered by how his team got swept in a weekend series against the Boston Red Sox, which has now left the Bronx Bombers on a five game losing streak. “It’s early, but the team needs to get it together,” Steinbrenner said. “We’ve got too much talent to be swept by anybody at Yankee Stadium, even if we’re playing the ’27 Yankees. It’s not acceptable. We need to start doing what I know we can do.” Meanwhile in regards to Posada the team had a conference call involving team president Randy Levine, Jeter, Hal Steinbrenner and GM, Brian Cashman, to talk about what happened with Posada and whether he should be punished. “We’re all on the same page,” Jeter said in regards to Posada. “Everything is good. It’s a non-issue. That’s all I got.” Posada, who is only hitting .165 with six homeruns and 15 RBI’s wasn’t in the lineup on Monday when the Yankees opened their series at Tropicana Field, against the Rays. “When you’re hitting (.165), you’re lucky to be in the lineup,” Steinbrenner said of Posada. “He’ll comeback, I’ll guarantee that.”
