Sharks’ Wellwood makes headlines on comments about Canucks

The rivalry  between the San Jose Sharks and Vancouver Canucks got that much more heated on Saturday when it was announced that Sharks’ forward, Wellwood, questioned the Canucks ability to win in the playoffs. Wellwood, who played two seasons for the Canucks, was picked up off the waver wire in January by the Sharks and went on to score five goals and 13 points, while posting a solid +13 in 35 games. Starting on Sunday night Wellwood will be seeing a lot of his former Canucks team as they kick off their Western Conference Finals series. Canucks defenceman, Kevin Bieksa, who played those two seasons with Wellwood, took exception to his former teammate’s comments in questioning the Canucks abilities and will to win. “I don’t even remember what that weasel said,” Said Bieksa, who was a solid +22 in 66 games this season. Recently, Wellwood said that he prefers playing for the Sharks because they are more of a mature team and “they’re not so scared of losing.” Bieksa didn’t hold back in his strong criticism of Wellwood. “When we had him on our squad we were afraid to lose,” he said. “He was the smallest third-line centre in the league at that point.”
