Sharks Nip Wings In SEVEN…by Momma Gouche

The San Jose Sharks were up 3-0 in the 3rd round of the series, but the Detroit Red Wings were able to draw it out to a seventh game, before they conceded the series on Thursday night.  Devin Setoguchi scored a power play goal at 12:00 and Logan Couture scored at 19:01 to put the Sharks up 2-0. San Jose won the majority of the face-offs in the first period and out-shot Detroit 17-11. Antti Niemi made a tremendous save 5 minutes into the second and played a very solid game in the first half of the period. But the Red Wings came back with some very solid efforts of their own and out-shot the Sharks 17-6 in the second. San Jose was fortunate to get out of the period still maintaining their one goal lead. Henrik Zetterberg scored at 13:10 of the third and San Jose’s lead is cut to one. Even though Todd Bertuzzi and Dan Cleary did not return for the third, due to injuries, the Red Wings were able to put forth a very credible performance. San Jose took a too many men on the ice penalty at 7;33 and a mistake like that could have cost them the game. But Patrick Marleau hit the mark at 12:13, and for now they had a 2 goal margin again. Then Pavel Datsyuk takes the assurance goal away at 13:59.  Detroit out-shot San Jose 12-7 in the period and 40-30 in the game, but came out the losers. I was a great game with the outcome always in the balance. Now the San Jose Sharks move on to meet Our Canadians … The Vancouver Canucks. My prediction is the Canucks in 5.
