Former NHLer Roenick speaks his mind

Former NHL superstar, Jeremy Roenick, has never been affraid to speak his mind and this spring has been no exception. Roenick, who scored over 500 goals during what was an illusterous 20 year career, recently called out his former San Jose Shark teammate, Patrick Marleau, for his play during a 4-3, Game, 5 loss to the Detroit Red Wings. Now a broadcaster for Versus, Roenick used the word “gutless” in describing Marleau’s play for that particular game. “An unbelievably poor effort from Patrick Marleau,” Roenick elaborated, about the veteran, who has two goals and five points in 11 play-off games this spring. “A gutless …gutless performance by Patrick Marleau. Count them – zero points in this series. And he had a game like that.” Naturally, Marleau, who had 73 points this season, was asked about Roenick’s comments but, unlike his teammates, Marleau didn’t have a comment. “He’s a great hockey player and we still think he’s a great teammate,” said linemate, Joe Thornton. “Marleau has scored a lot of goals …  and a lot of big goals  for this team. We realize it’s a team sport and we all have to be better, that’s just the bottom line.”
