Red Wings force a Game 6

Fans at Joe Louis Arena will have at least one more chance to see Nicklas Lindstrom spin his magic in a Detroit Red Wings’ uniform. While rumours of his immediate retirement keep making the rounds Lindstrom continues to be one of the best Red Wings in their series against the San Jose Sharks. After losing the first three of their Western Conference Semifinals people were prematurely writing off the Red Wings. Despite many of their key players being passed their primes they have dug down deep in avoiding elimination by winning both Game four and five by 4-3 scores. “There’s a lot of character on this team. There’s not any quit,” said Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard, who on Sunday night made 39 saves for the Game five win.”Our season was on the line there in the third period, and we found a way.” Detroit who finished third in the Western Conference with 104 points exploded for three third period goals, including the winner by veteran forward, Tomas Holmstrom. Also scoring third period goals were Jonathan Ericsson and role player, Dan Cleary who. like Lindstrom, could be playing his last few games in a Red Wings uniform. In winning the last two games the Red Wings, all of the suddenm have a realistic shot at joining the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs, 1975 New York Islanders and the 2010 Philadelphia Flyers, as the only teams to come back and win their series after losing their first three games. I think you put yourselves in a very dangerous position if you get back on your heels against that team,” Sharks’ coach Todd McLellan said. “I didn’t think we did that tonight. They just outplayed us in the third period.” Also scoring for the Wings was Niklas Kronwall. Meanwhile scoring for the Sharks were Logan Couture, Joe Pavelski and Devin Setoguchi.
