Washington Out In Four…by Momma Gouche

I don’t know if anyone remembers that I said that the Washington Capitals would win the Stanley Cup. Well, I did change my mind when Vancouver Canucks showed such big numbers in the regular season. But who would have thought the Capitals would go out 4 straight in the second round. Washington Capitals’  Mike Knuble took a goalie interference penalty at 8:49 and Alex Ovechkin was nailed for charging at 11:14, which lead to the power play goal by Ryan Malone at 12;37 and a lead for Tampa Bay of 1-0. Washington were not at their best at the opening of the period in the Tampa Bay/Washington 4th encounter Wednesday night. The Capitals’ Marco Sturm did get one back at 18:30 on a power play, But going into the second the Lightning took over, with 2 goals from Sean Bergenheim at 4:41 and 13:34 to put Tampa Bay ahead 3-1. John Erskine put one in for Washington at 13:40  In the third Marc Andre Bergeron scored for the Lightning at 5:07,on a power play, and the Lightning lead 4-2. Martin St Louis scored at 16:52 for Tampa Bay  and John Carleson scored for the Capitals  at 17:54. The score ended 5-3 and the series ended 4-0 for the Tampa Bay Lightning. The looks of disbelief and dejection on the Washington bench told it all. The team who had finished first in the Eastern Division went out in 4 straight.
