Yankees’ Jeter not in lineup against Tigers

Veteran shortstop, Derek Jeter, admitted that he was frustrated when he didn’t see his name in the starting New York Yankees starting lineup for their Thursday night game against the Detroit Tigers. According to Yankees manager, Joe Girardi, he wanted to give Jeter a day off sometime during this current gruelling stretch which has them play 16 in as many days. According to sources Jeter, who is now only 47 hits shy of 3,000, was not happy about being scratched due to his recent hot stretch, which has seen him get two hits in two games. “It’s always difficult not to play, but yeah, anytime you feel like you’re having good at-bats and you’re swinging the bat well, you want to continue,” Jeter who is hitting .250 with six RBI’s said. “But today, that’s not the case.” Another reason why Girardi didn’t play Jeter against the Detroit Tigers is because career wise he is 0 for 9 against Rick Porcello who was on the mound for Detroit.  “It’s not like there are a lot of numbers,” Girardi said. “We have two left-handers coming up after this, so it wasn’t going to be one of those days.” Meanwhile Jeter who earlier hurt his hip insisted that he is one hundred percent healthy and is not undergoing any treatment. Girardi hinted that Jeter will be back in the lineup on Friday night in Texas against the Rangers.
