Caps’ GM McPhee gives Boudreau vote of confidence

Less than 24 hours after being bounced from the Stanley Cup play-offs Washingto Capitals GM ,George McPhee went on record inving his coach, Bruce Beudreau a vote of confidence  that he would be back. He is a good coach. The team was shockingy beaten by the Tampa Bay Lightning. someone said that he is not a good coach.  There’s no difference between a ‘play-0ff’ and a ‘regular-season coach.’ You’re either a good coach or you’re not. He’s a good coach.” A day after losing the Eastern Conference semi finals the topic making the rounds in Washington was Boudreau’s future and whether or not he should still be coach. Washington star Alex Ovechkin who had five goals and 10 points in nine playoff games this year expressed shock over being eliminated so early as did his fellow defenceman Karl Alzner. While Boudreau has led the Caps to four straight Southeast Division titles and a President’s Trophy last year the fact can’t be ignored that in his four years behind the bench he has never led the team past the second round. Reflecting on the season and makeup of the team McPhee was optimistic about the future and what needs to be done. “I don’t see major changes. … We’ll see what the summer brings,” McPhee said. “What we’re doing here, I believe, is putting a good team on the ice every year and hopefully one of these years we win it. But we’re in the mix every year and it could be worse: We could be missing the playoffs.”
