Tampa Bay Tame The Capitals…by Momma Gouche

Even though Sean Bergenheim put the Lightning ahead at 2:12 of the opening of the Tampa Bay/Washington game Friday night, it didn’t appear as though the Lightning would be any match for the tough Washington squad. The loss of Simon Gagne and Pavel Kubina, with head injuries, added to the challenge. Eric Fehr put Washington ahead 2-1 at 1:51  of the second, but steady perseverence lead to a goal by Steve Downie at 16:17 of the second and the score was 2-2. The Capitals’ Jason Chimera took a roughing penalty at 19:28 which resulted in a power play goal for Tampa Bay’s Steve Stamkos. The Lightning took two penalties in the third, which didn’t bode well for their chances, but at 19:20 Dominic Moore netted a wrist shot and the Tampa Bay Lightning bolted to a 4-2 victory. Another two head injuries has put a heavy damper on the hockey world, but hopefully the efforts of Keith Primeau, Kerry Goulet and interested supporters can educate parents, coaches, and players on the serious damage done by head shots. It appears as though Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins has suffered a relapse and in not ready for any more hockey activity this season.
