The Flyers Take It To Seven by Momma Gouche

A fight between Philadelphia’s Scott Hartnel and Buffalo’s Paul Gaustad at 1:21 and the play is at 4 on 4. Rob Niedermayer scored at 2:13 and the Sabres are up 1-0. Buffalo goes ahead 2-0 on a power play goal by Thomas Vanek at 8:41. The Sabres looked like they were in control until Daniel Biere gets that important goal that puts the Flyers back in the game. Vanek gets his second goal (a power play) with 23 seconds left in the first and the period ends 3-1 for the Sabres. Buffalo had taken three penalties between 10:05 and 17:38, but managed to come out of period up 2, even though Philadelphia had out shot them 17-8. The Flyers’ James van Riemsdyk scores (off the face-off) at :49 and cuts the lead to 1. The Flyers nearly scored minutes later, but then Philadelphia seemed to take control at the 17:00 minute mark and the Sabres were running in circles. Briere scores (his second) on a power play at 8:43 and it was tied up a 3-3. Michael Leighton is replaced by Brian Boucher. The Flyers take 2 penalties and the Sabres have a 5 on 3 and Boucher is really tested,  but the Buffalo does not score until Nathan Gerbe tallys at 16:09 (Miller gets an assist) just after the penalties had expired. The Flyer’s Scott Hartnell scores at 10.43  and the game is set for over-time. Philadelphia’s Ville Leino scored the over-time winner at 4:43 and the series will go into a 7th game. The Philadelphia Flyers look more like the time we had seen in the regular series.
