NHL playoff news

1. FLYERS WILL BE WITHOUT PRONGER FOR GAME 3

Once again it looks like the Philadelphia Flyers will have to play without their hulking veteran defenceman, Chris Pronger. The Flyers, who are tied 1-1 in their best of seven playoff series with the Buffalo Sabres, have been without the 17 year veteran, due to hand surgery that he had back in March. While he won’t play on Monday, his status is uncertain for Game four. Pronger, who is 36, scored four goals and 25 points in 50 games for the Flyers this year.

2. DUCKS’ RYAN TO MISS GAME 3 and 4

The Anaheim Ducks suffered a tremendous blow when their star scoring forward, Bobby Ryan, was slapped with a two game suspension for stepping on Nashville Predators’, Johnathon Blum’s skate. Even though he didn’t get penalized, he was still caught by television cameras, which eventually led to an NHL hearing. The Ducks, who won that Friday night game 5-3,  head into Game 3 tied 1-1 in their best of seven Western Conference Quarterfinal play-off series.

3. HABS’ GOMEZ HAS HEAVY PRAISE FOR PRICE

Following the Montreal Canadiens Game 1 playoff victory forward Scott Gomez referred to goalie Carey Price as one of the best goalies in the world. Gomez, who throughout his career has played in front of some stellar netminders such as Martin Brodeur in New Jersey and Henrik Lundqvist in New York made this comment after Price stopped 31 shots in shutting out the Bruins 2-0 in their Eastern Conference Quarterfinals game. “I think he’s at the level now where he’s one of the best in the world. He has got that presence,” Gomez said. “Whether he likes it or not, he has set the bar that high. He has been waiting for this.”
