Red Sox sign Gonzalez to long term extension

The one ray of sunshine so far in the Boston Red Sox season has been the strong start of first baseman Adrian Gonzalez. Despite the fact that the Red Sox have gotten off to an uncharacteristic 2-9 start no one can point the finger at the slugging first baseman who is hitting a solid .268 with a homerun and seven RBI’s. A huge reason why many picked the Red Sox to win the American League East Division is due to them getting Gonzalez from the San Diego Padres last December for prospects. Last season in a big ballpark of San Diego he managed to hit 31 homeruns with 101 RBI’s and a .298 average. Signing what is a seven year  154 million dollar deal was a big relief for Gonzalez who is in his eighth major league season. “Let’s forget about everything else, just focus on winning and being part of the team,” Gonzalez said when talking about how taking care of this makes him feel relieved. Gonzalez, who is a former Florida Marlines 2000 first round draft choice has already hit 169 homeruns in his career. This three time all-star, who has a 282 career batting average signed what is the second most lucrative contract in franchise history.
