Greinke suffers off-season rib injury

Milwaukee Brewers’ management, fans and players alike, received some crushing news on Monday, when it was revealed that, former 2009 CY Young Award winner, Zack Greinke, suffered a fractured right rib; while playing basketball. Greinke, who was traded this past winter from the Kansas City Royals to the Brewers, suffered this mishap after attempting a lay-up during the off-season. “I’m feeling good .., but it’s not worth it,” said Greinke, who went 10-14 last year, with a 4.17 ERA. “Hopefully it won’t be too long. I don’t want to miss any time with the team, especially at the beginning. Until it heals there’s nothing you really can do. You just need to let it heal.” Greinke, who will more than likely begin the season on the disabled list, had initial x-rays; which turned out negative. Prior to getting the Monday MRI, Greinke made two spring training starts. In his second one, last Sunday, he allowed one run on five hits … in only two innings … against the World Series finalist the, Texas Rangers. “Anybody who’s in camp, and anyone who has a Brewers’ uniform, can step up, and … if he pitches well … he can take that spot,” Melvin said. “It doesn’t mean we can replace Zack, but it means we’ll have a replacement.”
