Islanders Beat Penguins in Ugly Punch-up

Another chapter was written in the New York Islanders rivalry between the Pittsburgh Penguins. Approximately a week after Islanders’ goalie, Rick DiPietro, got punched out by Pens’ counterpart, Brent Johnson. The two teams teams met again on February 11 and, not surprisingly, there were more fireworks on display. The worst offense, in what was an Islanders 9-3, came when Islanders’ fourth liner, Trevor Gillies, skated behind an unexpectant Eric Tangradi and delivered a violent elbow to the Penguins’ head. If that wasn’t bad enough, Gillies began pounding on Tangradi, who wasn’t fighting back, due to being injured. Meanwhile, Islanders’ Matt Martin also found himself in hot water for punching the Pens’ Max Talbot from behind. Johnson, who has never gotten into a fight before last week, found himself being challenged by the Islanders’ Michael Haley, who skated down the ice to take him on. At that moment Penguins’ enforcer, Eric Godard, came racing in from the bench to protect his goalie. Due to leaving the bench, that noble deed will, more than likely, cost Godard a 10 game suspension. Stay tune for details on all the suspensions that will more than likely be announced on Sunday.
