Maple Leafs Phil Kessel showing some frustration

Toronto Maple Leafs scoring forward, Phil Kessel, has always been a painfully shy person, but he certainly got the attention of Leafs’ Nation after his comments on Saturday following a Leafs 6-2 loss against the Buffalo Sabres. During this game Kessel failed to score for the tenth straight game and was on the ice for two Sabres goals, so he is now an ugly -22 on the season. Kessel, who came to the Leafs in September 2009, was benched for part of the third period on Saturday and in total received only 15:39 of ice time. Following the game Kessel, who has 19 goals and 34 points on the season, was asked by the media if his coach Ron Wilson took him aside afterwards and perhaps offered a word of encouragement or addressed any specified issues.”No, me and Ron don’t really talk. That’s all I have to say about that,” said Kessel, who was playing with two non … goal scorers, Joey Crabb and Darryl Boyce. When asked about his goal drought Kessel also expressed a little frustration at what’s been going on. “I don’t really know what to say about that any more,” said Kessel, who was a Bruins 2006 first round pick. “I’m trying. Obviously, it’s not going right. It might not be working out here. What are you going to do?” Wilson pointed out after the Buffalo game that Kessel has been a -7 in his past 10 games and that’s why he was moved to another line. “When he’s so focused on scoring goals, he’s forgetting the other part of the game,” Wilson said. “If the puck’s not going in, and that’s all you’re focused on, a lot of times you’ll end up not being in the positions you should be in. And that goes for any player…if you’re struggling to score, don’t be scored against.”
