Malkin injured against the Buffalo Sabres

To say it’s been a tough year for Pittsburgh Penguins superstar, Evgeni Malkin, would be a clear understatement. The former 2004 Penguins first overall draft choice, who has two one hundred point seasons on his resume, has suffered numerous injuries in what has been hands down his toughest season to date. Malkin, who in 2009 won the Art Ross Trophy with 113 points, returned from a knee injury on Friday night only to once again get injured during a home game against the Buffalo Sabres. This season Malkin, who is affectionately known as ‘Gino’,has scored 15 goals and 37 points in only 42 games. During what was a 3-2 Penguins win Malkin, who missed the past five games with a knee injury, was re-injured in the second period after violently colliding with hulking Sabres defenceman, Tyler Myers. The injury occurred after Malkin and Myers were racing for a lose puck. Malkin, who appeared to have injured his right knee needed the trainer to help him off the ice, where he quickly disappeared to the locker room. He is scheduled to undergo an MRI in the coming days. Meanwhile captain Sidney Crosby is still out for the Penguins along with rookie forward, Mark Letestu.
