Malkin will not be in Penguins line-up against the Devils

First it was Sidney Crosby, and now it’s fellow All-Star forward, Evgeni Malkin, who will be missing some time due to injuries. While the Penguins are without Crosby for an indefinate period of time, they have also lost Malkin due to the ever popular lower body injury. “[Malkin] will not be going on the trip with us for [Thursday’s] game,” Penguins coach, Dan Bylsma, said about Thursday’s game against the New Jersey Devils. Malkin, who missed some time earlier this season with a leg injury, has gone six straight games without scoring. Still for the season ‘Gino,’ has produced an acceptable 15 goals and 37 points; which is quite a bit below his offensive average. Since losing Crosby, the Penguins have gone an even .500 at 3-3 and trail the Philadelphia Flyers by three points for top spot in the Eastern Conference. With both superstars out of the line-up Bylsma will be leaning heavily on forward, Jordan Staal, who has scored three goals and six points in only eight regular season games this year. “We’ve had games with just Sid, and we’ve had games with just [Malkin]. And now we’re going to go with just Jordan,” Bylsma said. “Well we’re going to be recalling a player to fill the void. It’s going to be power-play minutes and a center position. It’s going to be a bit of a challenge. Mark Letestu is going to have to play a bigger role. Chris Conner and lots of guys are going to have to play more minutes to fill the void of the 20 minutes and the position that [Malkin] plays for us on the ice.”
