Tuesday night around the NHL

1. WELLWOOD LOOKING AT SIGNING VETERAN WELLWOOD

Looking for a veteran presence the St. Louis Blues who are currently three points out of a playoff spot are rumoured to be contemplating signing forward Kyle Welwood. This Toronto Maple Leaf and Vancouver Canuck has scored 63 goals and 160 points in 338 games before bolting to the KHL last fall. Unfortunately the 27 year-old was released by his team the Atlant Mytishchi and must clear waivers before joining St. Louis.

2. OSGOOD’S SURGERY DEEMED A SUCCESS

Detroit Red Wings players, management and fans alike were breathing a deep sigh of relief when it was announced that 38 year-old goalie Chris Osgood’s hernia surgery was successful. Osgood, who has 401 career wins had the surgery on Tuesday and is expected to be back in approximately eight weeks. This popular backup is only the tenth goalie to hit the 400 win plateau. In his career he has also won three Stanley Cups with the Wings.

3. BRIERE SCORES FOUR POINTS AS FLYERS BEAT SABRES

Perhaps feeling like he had something to prove after being left off the upcoming all star team, Danny Briere scored his team leading 22nd goal and added three assists in leading his Philadelphia Flyers to a 5-2 win against his former team the Buffalo Sabres. “Danny B’s having a heck of a season and it gives him motivation to shove it up whoever didn’t pick him,” said teammate Scott Hartnell, who scored twice, including an empty-netter in a game the Flyers scored the final five goals.
