Derek Jeter not happy with Yankees management

Three days after coming to terms with the New York Yankees on a three year contract worth 51 million, Derek Jeter admitted to being miffed and angry at management for how they acted during negotiations. Despite Jeter being the team captain and the all time Yankee leader in hits with 2,926 management told Jeter through the negotiations process that he should drink some “reality portion” and they even welcomed him to test the free agent market. “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t angry how some of this went,” Jeter who ranks second on the Yankees all time list in games played at 2,295 said. I’m going to be honest with you guys, the thing that bothered me the most was how public this became. It was not enjoyable experience because throughout the years I’ve prided myself on keeping things out of the papers and out of the media. This turned into a big public thing. That is something I was not happy about. I let my feelings be known.”
Coming off a 10 year 189 million dollar contract Jeter, who will be 37 next year initially turned down a three year 45 million dollar contract in hopes of landing a five or six year deal worth in the neibourhood of 22-24 million dollars. “We were all upset and a little bit angry that it reached the level that it did,” Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner said. “You always had unnamed sources making this comment or that comment, but that is what sells papers. But that is why we sat down together face to face. It was a difficult three, four weeks, but we got it done and everyone is ready to move on.” Jeter who was asked last season if he would be willing to switch positions said that he is now happy with the contract and that all is forgiven.
