Slugger Adam Dunn signs with the Chicago White Sox

The Chicago White Sox added more power to what already is a lethal batting order as they signed free agent slugger Adam Dunn to a four year deal worth an estimated 56 million dollars. This 31 year-old who hit 38 homeruns and 103 for the Washington Senators a year ago will join other big bats such as Alex Rios (21 homeruns, 88 RBI’s), Carlos Quenten ( 26 homeruns, 87 RBI’s) and possibly Paul Konerko (39 homeruns, 111 RBI’s) in the White Sox line up. At the press conference announcing the signing Dunn who is a ten year veteran voiced his desire and wish that Konerko will re-sign as a free agent with Chicago. “I just know how much he means to the White Sox organnization and to the clubhouse and to the city and everything else,” Dunn who began his career with the Cincinnati Reds said. “I know he’s a great person, a great guy. I think he can do just as much on the field as off the field. Hopefully, things will work out. The White Sox and Paul are going to do what’s best for them, but I would love to have him back.” In his first year Konerko will make 12 million followed by 14 million in year two and 15 million in year three and four. Chicago, who finished six games behind the Minnesota Twins in the AL Central Division also re-signed veteran catcher A.J. Pierzynski to a two year 8 million dollar contract. Pierzynski expressed his desire to hopefully have Konerko back with Chicago next year. “He’s done a lot of tremendous things not only for the team but in the community, on and off the field,” Pierzynski said. It would just be unbelievable for me to look up and take the field as a White Sox and not have Paul Konerko on the field with me. It would be something that I can’t even describe because we’ve been together for six years and he’s become a really good friend of mine.”
