Alex Ovechkin in Question Over Performance

After suffering a 5-0 blowout loss against the New Jersey Devils it’s quite evident that Washington Capitals power forward Alex Ovechkin isn’t immune to being questioned and criticized by the press. Following this latest loss on Monday night, Ovechkin who hasn’t scored in his past four games was seen and heard laughing with Devils Ilya Kovalchuk which didn’t go over well with the press. After the event CSN Washington’s Corey Masisak was directly honest about the superstar when he wrote “There was something that didn’t feel right about the way Ovechkin and Kovalchuk were laughing and clearly having a good time while the other players showed little emotion after the contest.” He also pointed out how it was strange that only a couple of minutes before hand Ovechkin, who has 10 goals and 26 points this year was sombre when addressing the media. During the game Ovechkin was demoted to first the third line during the second period and second line in the third. To make matters even worse Ovechkin could be overheard laughing and carrying on with Kovalchuk during his coach’s post game press conference. Apparently Coach Bruce Boudreau gave Ovechkin a few long dirty looks during his conference. When he was asked about his captain laughing and having an upbeat conversation with an opponent after a blowout loss Boudreau was vague in his reponse. “I’ll reserve my thoughts on that, if you don’t mind,” Boudreau said. Other media outlets in Washington questioned Ovechkin’s motive and judgement in putting himself in that situation. Washington who won the Presidents Trophy last year has now lost their past three games.
