New Jersey Devils Still Struggling

Things are quickly spinning out of control for the New Jersey Devils who face the real possibility of missing the playoffs. While an optimist would point to the fact that there is a lot of hockey still to be played the reality is that there are five teams ahead of the Devils who enter Sunday eight points out of a playoff spot. New Jersey who dropped to 5-13-2 after their Saturday night loss against the St. Louis Blues received some crushing news earlier in the day when it was announced that their star goalie Martin Brodeur will be sidelined for a couple of weeks with an elbow injury. Brodeur who is 4-10-1 this year with a 2.74 GAA has what the team is calling a bruised elbow and has been advised to rest for the next 10 days. Brodeur who must be healthy if the Devils entertain any thoughts of making the playoffs, originally hurt his elbow on November 3 in a game against the Chicago Blackhawks. A few starts later Brodeur was forced to take himself out of a game after two periods against the Toronto Maple Leafs due to the elbow. “There is nothing structurally [damaged] there,” said Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello. adding that Brodeur should rest the elbow “for the next four or five days to get the swelling down. It will be a maximum of two weeks.”
