Claude Giroux Signs in Philly 3 Years

The free agent crop for next summer just became that much more weaker as the Philadelphia Flyers disappointed the other 29 teams by signing Claude Giroux to an extension. This 22 year-old who was drafted first round by the Flyers in 2005 is off to a solid start as he leads the team with seven goals and 14 points. Giroux, who has become a fan favourite in Philadelphia is apparently ecstatic to be staying in Philadelphia. “We started talking at the start of the season, Giroux whose three year extension is worth 11.25 million said. “I had a couple of options to look over and me and my lawyer talked about it and felt this was the best fit for me. We have a lot of good players on this team and I’m just trying to fit in. Hopefully, we can continue with our success.” Coming off a 47 point season, Giroux seems to have grown into more of an impact player this year as he also tops the Flyers with three shorthanded goals and game winners with also three. It’s hard to believe that last year he didn’t even score a shorthanded goal and didn’t notch his seventh goal until mid- December. “He’s a good two-way player for us now,” Holmgren praised. “He’s seeing considerable ice time and he not only plays on our power play, but also shorthanded situations and for a young player coming into the league at the age he did, that says something.” It’s a sure bet that the news coming out of Philly was a huge disappointment to GM’s around the league who were preparing to take a run at signing him next summer.
