When it Rains it Pours for the Devils

Things just seem to be going from bad to worse for the New Jersey Devils who saw their veteran all-star goalie Martin Brodeur get injured on Wednesday night against the Chicago Blackhawks. Even though the struggling Devils got a much needed 5-3 win in that game, it still pales in comparison to potentially losing arguably the best goalie in the league. The 38 year-old who won 45 games last season had to leave the Devils net early in the second period after injuring himself while making a save on a Patrick Kane slap shot from in close. “it was a stinger,” Brodeur who tried to stay in but had trouble holding his stick said afterwards. “It hit me, not on the funny bone, but right on the nerves that are connected there and just kind of lost all strength that I had in my hand, so I couldn’t hold my stick. I tried. I went to play the puck and it was just weak.” The good news for New jersey who are now 4-9-1 is that a set of x-rays came out negative. Still it’s not a slam dunk on whether or not Brodeur will play on Friday night at home against the New York Rangers. “From past experience on big bruises like that, it usually takes me a couple of days to feel 100 percent,” he said. “but we’ll see how this one reacts.” New Jersey is already missing top scorer Zach Parise who is gone for up to three months with a knee injury.
