Devils lose Zach Parise

Right when it seemed like things couldn’t get worse for the free falling New Jersey Devils, they suffered another huge setback when it was announced on Tuesday that star forward Zach Parise will be gone for three months. This 26 year-old who scored 38 goals and 82 points last season went under the knife to have a torn meniscus repaired in his knee. Even though he originally hurt it back in August he tried to gut it out this season and had an impressive three goals and six points in the team’s first 12 games. This is just the latest disappointment for the Devils who are off to a dismal 3-9-1 start. Parise, who is a former 2003 first round pick was counted on along with Ilya Kovalchuk to lead the offence. In the past four seasons he has had seasons of 31, 32, 45 and 38 goal seasons. Last season during the Winter Olympics it was Parise who playing for the States scored the tying goal with only 24 seconds left in the gold medal game. Unfortunately for the Americans they lost that gold medal game in overtime on a Sidney Crosby goal. New Jersey who were actually picked by some to perhaps challenge for the Stanley Cup are off to their worst start in the past 27 years.
