Brent Sutter Has Words for the Flames

After missing the post season last year the Calgary Flames have gotten off to a solid start but that didn’t matter when yesterday coach Brent Sutter had some strong words to say about his club after they surrendered a third period lead against the Colorado Avalanche. “I saw a team that stuck with the program for 36 minutes,” Sutter whose team lost 6-5 said. Sutter, whose team is now 6-4 on the season elaborated to the media about why his team has now blown two straight third period leads. “Our best players, outside of Olli (Jokinen), weren’t very good-bottom line,” Sutter who is in his second year as the Flames coach said. “(Mat) Stajan’s line wasn’t very good…our top defenceman weren’t very good tonight.” In the past couple of games which also includes a 5-4 shootout loss against the Edmonton Oilers Calgary has been outscored 5-1 in the third period. Against Edmonton on Tuesday night Calgary surrendered a two goal third period lead and were outscored 3-1 against Colorado on Thursday. Sutter went on to say that all elite teams don’t blow third period leads and that his team has to change that if they are to be successful. “There’s no one left off the hook,” Sutter said. “Until everyone understands that, this is going to happen. it’s my job as head coach to make darn sure it stops.”
