Niklas Hjalmarsson’s Hit on Jason Pominville

Right after witnessing an ugly incident which saw teammate Jason Pominville taken off the ice on a stretcher Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller believed that the NHL should make an example out of Niklas Hjalmarsson and throw the book at him. Even though Hjalmarsson is not known as a dirty player Miller still believes that the Chicago Blackhawks defenceman should be severely punished for his hit from behind on Pominville last Saturday night in what was a 4-3 Hawks win. “You can’t have a hit like that, it’s dangerous,” Miller said. “I’m glad he admitted he didn’t mean to do it. But you’ve got to change the culture some time, and I hope the league wakes up and sets a precedent for the year.” Following the hit from behind Hjalmarsson received a five minute boarding major and a game misconduct. Both teams will once again meet up this weekend only this time in Chicago. Meanwhile Pominville who hasn’t yet registered a point this season is currently resting at home and is still experiencing concussion symptoms. “My intention wasn’t to hurt him,” Hjalmarsson said. “You never want to see someone laying on the ice like that.”
