NHL NOTES

1. BOYNTON REGRETS THROAT GESTURE
Veteran Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Nick Boynton used the word stupid in describing his actions against the Tampa Bay Lightning when last Wednesday in Winnipeg he made a throat slashing gesture towards opposing forward Blair Jones. “It was just stupid,” Boynton who was suspended for the Hawks season opener against the Colorado Avalanche on October 7 and fined $2688.17 said. “I was upset. He beat me up, whatever. It was a stupid play on my part and I’m paying for it. It sucks, but I made my bed, now I have to sleep in it. It’s unfortunate, but that stuff happens.”

2. ISLANDERS LOSE OKPOSO
A few days after the New York Islanders lost their number one defenseman Mark Streit with a shoulder injury they were dealt another blow this time involving scoring forward Kyle Okposo. This former 2006 first round pick who is coming off a career season of 52 points is sidelined indefinitely with what has been diagnosed as a torn labrum to his right shoulder that will require surgery.
