NHL Notes

1. SENS GET ALL-STAR GAME
Ottawa management and fans had reason to celebrate on Wednesday as it was announced that the Ottawa Senators will be hosting the all-star game in 2012. A huge reason for the Sens being picked was due to the completion of the Ottawa Convention Centre along with it being the franchise 20th anniversary. In the past Ottawa has hosted the 2005 and 2008 entry drafts along with the world junior championships in 2009. “We’ve proven over and over again that we can put on a world-class event,” Sens owner Eugene Melnyk said.

2. BRUINS INVITE McGRATTAN TO TRAINING CAMP
Looking to earn a roster spot on the Boston Bruins this year will be veteran enforcer Chris McGrattan who was invited on a tryout basis to the Bruins training camp. Last season this 29 year-old scored one goal four points in only 34 games with the Calgary Flames. In his career this Hamilton native has played in 182 games with the Ottawa Senators, Phoenix Coyotes and the Senators where he has scored three goals 14 points and 395 penalty minutes.

3. FORSBERG ATTENDING AVALANCHE REUNION
On October 7 Peter Forsberg will be on hand for the 1996 Colorado Avalanche Stanley Cup reunion. So far 26 players/coaches have confirmed their appearance including team captain Joe Sakic, Patrick Roy, Mike Ricci and Claude Lemieux. “When you win something, you have a special bond, good memories,” Forsberg said. “I’m really excited to come and see everybody. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a few of them.”
