Tomas Kaberle is Fed Up with Wilson?

Two days after the Toronto Maple Leafs were officially eliminated from playoff contention, a wild story began circulating, throughout the media, that their veteran defenceman, Tomas Kaberle is at his wits end with coach, Ron Wilson. According to an article written on Thursday in the Toronto Sun Kaberle, who is about to complete his 11th season with the Leafs, told close friends that he “can’t stand playing for (head coach Ron) Wilson”. Also that “He’s had enough of the guy.”  Kaberle, who is second on the team in scoring, with 7 goals and 49 points; not surprisingly, strongly denied these rumours when approached by the media after the Thursday morning skate. To his credit, Kaberle has voiced to the media all year that he would like to stay, and eventually finish his career in Toronto, and help them win a Stanley Cup. Something he would still like to do. “I’m here over 10 years in the league and I’ve never had an issue with the coach, and I hopefully never will,” he said. “Obviously, I would like to know who said that, but it’s fun sometimes to read stuff like that in the papers. If that is the case, (asking for a trade) I would probably ask  at the deadline — right?” This Toronto Sun story mentioned about public comments Wilson made in criticizing Kaberle and another fellow defenceman, following their Tuesday night loss against the Atlanta Thrashers. “We talk about how solid our defence is and how well we’re playing, and we’ve still got guys who are minus -16, or whatever,” Wilson said in reference to Kaberle. “They’re supposed to be guys who get the job done defensively and they haven’t improved their plus-minus over the past month, when just about everybody else has.” Apparently these comments didn’t go over to well with Kaberle, who many believe will be traded in the off- season. The article went on to say that Kaberle wants out because, he not only doesn’t like the way Wilson coaches, but also disagrees with how he treats the players. This 204th Leafs’ selection, in the 1996 draft, is the longest serving Leaf having played in 815 career games and scored 80 goals and 482 points. Wilson, who has also coached with the Vancouver Canucks, Washington Capitals, Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks, said”  that he has absolutely “no issue” with Kaberle.” Even though Kaberle voiced his desire to stay in Toronto, it was interesting to see, that at the trade deadline, he submitted a couple of teams to management as places he would waive his no trade clause, if traded. Something he didn’t do in the past.
