Carey Price Struggling
Enduring the worst skid of his young National Hockey League career, Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price is remaining optimistic while saying all the right things.
“I know that I’m not as fragile as I thought I was and I know that I can get through this,” said the slumping Price who surrendered seven goals on Wednesday in a 7-2 loss against the Edmonton Oilers. “Without a doubt it has brought my work ethic up even more.”
Price, who is often compared to hall of fame and former Canadiens goalie Patrick Roy, has struggled mightily since coming back from an ankle injury on January 20. Questions have been asked in the last little while in Montreal concerning their All- Star net minder who has only registered two wins in his past eight games while sporting a dismal .860 GAA since the break. Still the 21 year-old who gave up five goals last Saturday against the Toronto Maple Leafs refuses to panic as he put his struggles into perspective.
“Going though games like this and having to go through the toughest part of your career is only going to make you better,” Price said during practice on Thursday.
Many Montreal fans were debating whether Price should have been pulled in that Oilers game. Some wondered whether giving up seven goals would destroy his confidence.
Price showed to be strong mentally when he said “It was good in the end to tough it out,” he said. “Games like that are either going to make diamonds or make you fall apart.”
The Canadiens will sink or swim with Price who some believe is still not completely over his injury.
