If it was solely up to the Pittsburgh Penguins management then their captain Sidney Crosby would not be participating in this weekendʼs All Star Game.

Crosby who has 60 points going into the break sustained a couple of games ago against the Carolina Hurricanes what is being termed a lower body injury, which might keep him out of his second straight All Star Game.

Even though the team medical staff thought it would be better in the long run for Crosby to not go on the ice for four to five days, Penguins general manager Ray Shero hasnʼt made a final ruling. The 21 year-old is extremely disappointed feeling that he really needs to play because he was voted by the fans as a starter and because itʼs being played in Montreal which is rich with hockey tradition. Adding to his disappointment and hesitation to officially pull out is that he is also scheduled to be in the breakaway challenge during Saturdayʼs NHL skills competition.

Earlier the team doctors took an MRI and team officials want him to by pass the weekend so that he will be healthy for after the break and help the Penguins who are currently out of a playoff spot to climb back in.

A long list of All Stars such as Nicklas Lindstrom, Pavel Datsyuk of the Detroit Red Wings, and Washington Capitals Nicklas Backstrom wonʼt be playing. Other big names include Boston Bruins Milan Lucic, Los Angeles Kings goalie Erik Ersberg and Columbus Blue Jackets goalie Steve Mason all wonʼt be playing because of injuries.
