Comments: Unlike last season, Ray Whitney has managed to stay healthy so far into the season. This veteran had a consistent first half and is right on pace with his pace from last year. Eric Staal had a disappointing first half and he must pick up his production if the Canes are to make the post season. Last season this blossoming star scored 82 points and for some reason this year his production has slipped dramatically. Staal, is on pace for only 59 points.

On defence, Joe Corvo has put up his usual offensive numbers. He still makes the odd mistake in his own end but more then makes up for it with his strong skating and ability to make that first pass out of the zone.

Inconsistent is the word for the Canes. Ladened with talent, Paul Maurice has this team in place to make the play-offs but they just can’t string wins together. The veterans need to be more if the want a chance to go far in the post season. Cam Ward is starting to be the Ward of old. If he gets hot, things will look good for the Hurricanes.
