For the time being it seems that Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen has dodged another bullet.
This fiery manager, who led the White Sox to a 2005 World Series title, has found himself in hot water this season for various events including going on a profanity laced tirade while his Sox were going through a terrible road trip in Toronto. Guillen, who used to play for Chicago in the 1980’s, caused some controversy during that trip last month when he expressed that the critical fans and media have quickly forgotten about the team winning it all in 2005. There was also an issue when the White Sox were criticized and disciplined for having a few inflatable dolls blown up in their clubhouse. It was supposed to be all in fun to lighten the tense mood around the team, and Guillen refused to apologize for any wrongdoing.
Last weekend Guillen committed the number one cardinal sin when it comes to his boss and is extremely luck to still have a job with the White Sox. In the heat of utter frustration last Sunday in Tampa Bay, he actually had the nerve to call out his boss Ken Williams who is the team’s general manager. Following Chicago’s third loss in a four game series in Florida, he said that Williams who is also a good friend of Guillen, has to do something if the team is to win. A huge reason why Guillen was so angry was that his team was a dismal 5 for 35 in hitting with runners in scoring position. “I’m sick and tired to watch this thing for a year and a half,” said Guillen. “I’m not protecting anyone anymore.” “If they can’t get it done, Kenny should find someone to get it done.”
Apparently Williams, who has defended his manager countless times was less than thrilled to be as he termed it thrown under the bus. “The only thing wrong I say-what Kenny saw and a lot of people saw was when I fingered Kenny about this ball club,” said Guillen who had a meeting with Williams on Tuesday to help clear the air. “I just said we need to get something done.”
Apparently according to reports Guillen was most upset by the fact that he is such good friends with Williams and doesn’t want to jeopardize that. “When it’s a friendship and he thinks I threw him under the bus, that hurt my feelings,” said Guillen whose team spanked the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday, the same day that he and Williams cleared the air. “I’m sorry the way he interpreted it. I truly believe he believed me. One thing about me, I’m not going to lie. If I said it that way to Kenny, I’d say listen I apologize. But I didn’t say it that way.” Stay tuned for the next saga involving the ever- entertaining Ozzie Guillen.
